Vantor’s Vivid Mosaic Improves the Mapbox Customer Experience by Updating Maps

Mapbox, the global location technology platform, has just released 10 million sq km of updated satellite imagery sourced from the Vantor™ Vivid™ Mosaic 30 cm basemap product. This means that the millions of developers who build with Mapbox imagery basemaps will be able to provide their users with high-resolution imagery that is more recent, clear, and accurate.

Vantor’s Vivid Mosaic is the only imagery basemap with 136 million sq km of near-seamless cloud-free coverage at 30 cm resolution—covering the entire globe except Antarctica. Vivid Mosaic uses AI-driven road and building change detection to guide new collections and ensure maps are updated with the most relevant data, at global scale. Vantor refreshes over 50 million sq km of mosaics each year and delivers consistent, easy-to-use imagery for mapping, apps, and simulations, with four spectral bands (BGRN) for large-scale analysis. Continuously refreshed, Vivid Mosaic ensures the most up-to-date view of the world.

For Mapbox’s global-scale mapping platform, 30 cm coverage delivers the optimal balance of coverage, currency, and consistency. Vivid Mosaic products are also available in stunning 15 cm HD resolution over more than 7 million sq km of global cities and high-priority areas for organizations requiring further detail.

Mapbox has integrated 10 million sq km of updated 30 cm mosaics (as noted in blue on the map above), focusing primarily on population centers with more than 500,000 people and large, uninterrupted swaths of the U.S. and Europe. Entirely updated countries include England, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. Additional regions will be updated in the future.

“We are proud to deepen our long-standing partnership with Vantor,” said Cherie Wong, SVP of Location Services at Mapbox. “Integrating the 30 cm basemap brings clearer, more accurate views of the world at a global scale, helping teams across industries make confident decisions as cities grow, infrastructure evolves, and landscapes change.”

“The partnership with Mapbox reflects the trust that leading mapping platforms place in Vantor imagery,” said Todd Surdey, EVP & GM of Enterprise & Raptor at Vantor. “Vivid Mosaic will help Mapbox customers across a wide variety of industries gain a clearer understanding of the world around them and make smarter decisions.”

Developers using the updated Mapbox map now have access to a Vivid Mosaic 30 cm basemap that reflects the current environment, like this solar farm in Nevada that’s been built in the past five years.

Much of the new imagery is less than a year old, providing a current and accurate representation of Earth. Mapbox customers across industries depend on updated imagery as a foundation for critical workflows:

  • Logistics companies use it to plan efficient transportation routes based on the most updated road networks.
  • Construction companies use imagery when planning sites and monitoring build progress.
  • Real estate and property management organizations use imagery to ensure that properties are represented accurately from a boundary and visual perspective.
  • And end users of any application with an imagery basemap expect to be able to see their local landscape reflected accurately when using maps.

Vantor’s Vivid Mosaic provides global-scale spatial intelligence of our changing world. Vivid Mosaic’s visual consistency over broad areas supports visualization in consumer apps and simulations, while mosaicked images offer efficiency and ease of use for mapping and product integration.
